Not Sure If My Orchid Is Healthy... Subscriber Question Answered
Hello, new to orchids, knew absolutely nothing about their care. I am totally committed to this little treasure I was gifted while in rehab. I can't believe I didn't kill it, it is growing a new leaf, thank you for Your very clear instructions on her care.
Hey Nancy, You’re very welcome. Be sure to check out the “new orchid” video. Good luck ✌🏾
I have an orchid that the leaves had completely fallen off, and the sticks are completely brown, but some of the roots are green, is it savable?
It can be. I’ve had plants that was down to the crown that came back. It’s a long road though. Skim through some of the videos. There should be one or two that can help you out. Good luck✌🏾
This is crazy brother almost 200 for headphones and they want to charge 130 for a fix, I have a pair of JBLs 5 years old they still work like day 1
Right! My Bose are 2+ and like new.
Holy shit, my moms headphones are fixed!! This is her third pair because the first one stopped working and i obviously got blamed for it and the second my brother broke and threw away along side my perfectly fine iPad….yeah he’s got a problem but I was worrried she’s think I broke them again when I never did in the first place😅
Im with you,Randy. I leave the spike on if it is still green. Some growers argue that the spike should be cut to reserve the orchids energy or so the orchid will direct its energy to making new leaves and roots. I also discovered that you can still feed the orchid a weak feeding while its in bloom. I tried this and my orchid has plenty energy and the spike is still green and starting a secondary spike! 😊
Honestly it’s not a bad idea to cut them. It truly is an energy thing. I’ve found I may get a secondary spike but end up not getting a new spike the following year. Whereas if I cut it the foliage will get to growing quick. But some people would rather have a secondary spike Thanks for stopping by and making a comment. Good luck✌🏾
Thanks for the feedback. I love a good experiment. I think I'm turning into a bit of a orchid nerd in my senior years. That's what my daughter said. @@RandyMHarris
Cool! Your orchid is sneaking into the fridge after lights out and having extra snacks! 😂 How are you caring for it, anything different from your other phals?
Something right!!! Nah, I wish I had some super cool secret to reveal in a fancy video that got 1,000,000,000,000 views….. but unfortunately I don’t. It’s getting partially neglected like everything else in my life.😂😂😂😂😂 Thanks for stopping by. ✌🏾
Hello I was watching your video and you added just a little bit of plant food into the water. What is the name of the food you use?
It’s just the Better Gro brand from the big box hardware stores. Last forever
Thank you for the info. My orchid is at the rescue stage.🥀
Watch a few of the other videos. Like “Know your roots” Once you understand about the root system it’s easier to know what they need as far as care! Good luck✌🏾
What if there are no green roots 😂😂
Try, the water only method. www.tiktok.com/t/ZPRKsw956/
I have 6 3 bloomed after two yrs
Thanks! I like the pot yours is in!
Thank you…. They can be found at Callaways nursery
I just repotted mine a few weeks ago with just bark and the plant isnt doing well. The leaves are yellowing and plump roots have died. Should i try repotting it with moss? Also i cut the stems almost a year ago and still haven't seen new growth for flowers yet
Sounds like it’s not getting enough water. How many good roots do you have left?
Not many roots left. Plump roots that grew before I repotted are not dead. I water once a week
I dont have Styrofoam. What else can i use? Also those roots that look like wires need to be cut too, right??
Use can use rocks, wood chips or even go without… it is a good to have not must have….. Yes, clip the dead roots. Good luck✌🏾

I’m a newbie when it comes to orchids. Yours is about the 4th video I’ve watched, by far the most info given in a good straight fwd way in English, no accent! And no annoying background music. What also sets you apart IMHO, is that you answer peoples questions, and even make comments! On a lot of various topic videos on RUclips, the "author" doesn’t answer peoples questions , sometimes important ones! Thank you.
Linda….. Thank you for visiting the page and even more for the kind words. It really means a lot…✌🏾
I'm new to your channel I have a few Orchids
Welcome!!!
Get the the F ing point.! F me..
Fuck you!!! Find another video. Ungrateful fuck!!!! Hope your shit is broke, broke. Was that to the point fast enough for you?????
Thank you so much for educating me on orchids. I’ve had one for three years that was given to me by my middle son. Is surviving but it’s only bloomed twice in three years and the life Spand of the bloom was not more than about a week and a half.
So 2 blooms in 3 years is not that uncommon. 1 week blooms is odd. Are you still feeding during bloom? If so are you using a bloom formula?
How to plant out door orchids
There are few few places in the US you can plant outside. It’s either too hot, too cold or too sunny.
I killed all plants so Injust didnt buy any anymore. My mom bought me an orchid. I was like...these are notoriously hard, and the poor thing is going to die. I started watching videos and learned how to take care of it. It flowered the mext year, and I was so happy. Well, we just moved states, and it looks terrible for some reason. I hope your video is going to save it, and thank you.
Hello August, What’s going on with it?
I have long air roots And not sure what to do with them. .?
That can be tricky. They are ok out of the pot but have to be misted often to stay hydrated. You could repot the plant.
thank you for such an easy to follow video! How long do you leave it in the water at the end?
Truth be told, until I remember I put it in there. 10-15 minutes is good. But if you forget and leave it a day or two it will be fine also. Just be sure to let it dry completely before watering again. Good luck✌🏾
Thank you for the video. I want to rescue two orchids but I don’t have that medium. Can I use the normal soil to repot them? Or do they need a specific soil? Thanks
Noooooooo……..😂 never put an orchid in soil. It smothers the roots and causes rot. Find either some fir bark or Spag Moss. If all else fails clean it up and put it in a jar of water. BE SURE TO CHANGE THE WATER EVERY FEW DAY! good luck!!✌🏾
@@RandyMHarris Thank you 🙏🏻 I just got the bark .Help appreciated
@@Quindr7247 there’s a few reporting videos on my channel, if you need them.
@@RandyMHarristhank you I will have a look at them. Can I use moss to put it on the top of the pot? Is that of any benefit? I’m struggling in how and when to water the orchid 😢. One has completely lost the leaves I’m trying to revive it 😢. After repotting how do you know the plant is doing ok? I just checked and the roots seems to get more and more damaged. I don’t understand what I’m doing wrong 😑
Thank you so much
You’re welcome✌🏾
I’m just now seeing your videos after searching how to save my own dying orchid. So great that you started the original video and then to be able to see the plant still thriving 4-5 years later is an added bonus!! Thank you so much for sharing❤
I've got about 15 small-medium orchids that all need to be repotted. Your video was helpful. Thanks
You’re welcome…. Good luck. Good music, good beverage and enjoy the process!!!! ✌🏾
You're so awesome :) ty for these videos!
best orchid content creator on youtube! ty!!!
I truly appreciate that!!! ✌🏾 Thanks for stopping by.
Thanks❤
Im confused. My two oechids suddently started dying and i assume it was bexause i put in too much water. Bit here uou literally soaked it. So is overwatering bad or not? I dont know what to do with these poor babies :(
Over watering is not a matter of how much water you use at any given time, it’s more about how long the roots are subjected to stale, non oxygenated water. I have some plants growing directly in jars of water. But the water is changed out often. If your plants are in moss or bark water then good and let them dry completely before watering again. Hope this helps!!!
Thank you for explaining! But I'm still confused. They were in what they came in- bark and moss or whatever inside a plastic container with holes. I think they were dry but when I watered them they suddenly started dying. One of them looks like the roots are good. The others roots were all rotten. I wish I understood exactly what was going on. I don't know if what I did was ok but I was desperate. The one with the bad roots, I pulled off all the rot, repotted it in the same medium (I know bad move but I don't have anything else) and then watered it. The other one I just left and hoped for the best. But they definitely look like they could use bigger pots (why do they put them in these tiny cups?) If I'm going to get new pots and moss I need it to be cheap and I need to order it online. Do you have any suggestions? The day I got these three orchids my thoughts were "how absolutely stunning!! In a very short time I will either be running a morgue or a hospital" Prophetic words :(
@@justincase7848 hey Justin, honestly sometimes it’s unexplainable as to why they go downhill. Maybe something was in the water? How long did it take for them to show signs of stress? They need smaller than logical pots cause they like their roots to be compact. Watch the “Know Your Roots” on my channel. It should help things make more sense. Good luck✌🏾
@RandyMHarris thank you. About two months. Yes it's frustrating because it all seems counter intuitive to what I would do with other plants...
Can you please move next door to me?
I need details before I can commit😂
@@RandyMHarrislol!!
Fun fact: many people leave a dying leaf on the orchid because they believe the plant absorbs nutrients from the dying leaf and distributes the nutrients elsewhere. 💖🌞🌵😷
Interesting!!!!!
Thank you so much for this informative and loving plant video. I'm trying to bring my sister's orchid back bc she was in hospital and it did not get tended to. She passed...trying to hang onto this plant that she cherished. God bless you.
So sorry to hear about your sister. What condition is the plant in? Shoot me a message on Instagram at instagram.com/blkorchidproject?igsh=ZDhraTViYnZrdXhx Maybe I can give you a direct solution.
It was a great video - you are so good that it doesn't matter about the video quality. Thank you again!
Thank you!!!!! I do what I can…..
Thank you - so helpful!
You’re welcome
Question, where in Richardson do you get your items to repot it ?
dr delphinium… be sure to walk the orchid house. May be a little blah right now but in late winter it’s amazing.
I just started buying orchids and got lucky with the first 3 orchids. The 4th one I saw today from Lowes had purple blooms so I got it... only to find how bad it is.. like the one you're showing in this video...
Sometimes you win big sometimes it’s a little harder but I’m sure it’s still alive. Just needs a little TLC. Good luck👊🏾
1 hour??? Does she live ON the sun?
😂 no, if they are not acclimated to direct sun they burn fast, kinda like us. I have had a couple that I left out on the patio from spring and they were able to withstand the sun better. We are talking Texas sun too.
The video was perfect for the orchid that I'd saved, it grew a keke and the began to die. If you would be kind enough to share information about how to save the keke, it would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks again~
There should be one, just not sure which one🤦🏾♂️ In short, keep caring for it as you are, be sure to mist the new roots to keep them moist. Once 2-3 of the roots get 1-2 inches cut it off below the roots and pot it as you would any orchid.
I washed 4 videos before i found you! You are def the Bob Ross of orchids!!! So happy I found your video. Thank you for explaining this is an easy way!
This may be my favorite comment ever!!!!
I just watched your other video & searched for the update!
Thanks for watching
Hi Randy, can you list the materials needed to transplant the orchids? Thank you! 😊
Really just some spaugham moss or orchid (fir) bark. Both can be found at the hardware stores. If it’s out grown its pot, a new pot just a little bigger than the roots. That’s pretty much it.
Thank you so much. I’ll try it with my dying orchid.
What about light?
Indirect sun is best. Grow lights work also.
How do you know what size pot to use when repotting?
You want it just a little larger than the roots. Smaller is better than larger. Sometimes they can go back in the same pot, depending on why you are repotting it.
Can you put it back into a decorative pot now? I always thought they had to be kept in a transparent pot?
Yes, it can go back in the decor pot. Clear pots are not necessary. They really don’t photosynthesize as much as people think through their roots.
Hi Randy, I watched your video yesterday on how to reroot orchid cuttings and putting it in a plastic container with the moss. And today I tried finding it but couldn’t find yours. Was wondering if you could help me find it. Thank you, Adele
Thank you from me and my new orchid baby in NYC!
👍 I appreciate the bits of additional info that you talk about during the replanting. However, I’m still trying to figure out the secret formula to keep them hydrated enough but not waterlogged. I was super surprised that although you found the plant already dying from too much water, you still left it soaking up water for 15 mins after the replanting. Does that mean that you don’t water it again for another month or ever? What’s the secret here to keep it well balanced?
So when we say overwatered, that doesn’t mean overwatered on a single watering. That means the plant is sitting in water that becomes stale and stagnant, which causes the roots to mold and rot. The plant itself can actually live in a jar of water as long as the water is exchanged often, the best thing to do is to soak your plant so you know it gets very hydrated. Let it drain and then don’t water it again until the roots are completely dry.
how often you water it? Thanks
